Zhi Zhu

Humans are greedy.

They are never satisfied with whatever they possessed - money, fame, power, talents, abilities et cetera. All that their eyes could see is what other people possessed, what others have. They are sometimes, jealous at the sight of what others have and start questioning God why they can't have that.

They are always envious of others.

"Oh, why can't I just draw as well as her?"
"Oh, why can't I just be as smart as him?"
"Oh, why can't I just cook as well as her?"
"Oh, why can't I just be as handsome as him?"
"Oh, why can't I just be as rich as Bill Gates?"

I believe wholeheartedly that this series of why can continue running till the next century. Wanna know why?

That's because humans never learn how to be zhi zhu....

What happened?

I could still recall vividly the perplexed look on my teacher's lightly tanned face.

When I went up to her with a small smile on my face, she was, well, quite delighted to see me. "Don't worry Keat Yee. I'm sure your result is fine," she said as her hands quickly ran through the stack of result slips on the table. I was prepared for the worst.

Then, all of a sudden, the initial delighted face was morphed into a face confused with questions. Lots of them, in fact.

"Oh...Here is your slip. Er...still very good result..." Puan Elizabeth thought she could have hidden her distraught but her tone gave her away.

A2...for English GCE 'O'...

I couldn't believe what my eyes told me. The pretty alphabet of A and the ugly number of 2.

Thoughts of "This couldn't be it...A2???" kept flowing into my mind. Tears were definitely building up but I remembered trying very hard to swallow them back bitterly. I did not want my Mummy to see my cry because it had been a long time since I last cried in front of her. Besides, two of my classmates, Mirosha and SukNing were around and I surely did not want them to see me cry either because the KeatYee that they knew was a strong girl who could never be dropping pearls of tears.

I also remembered how I kept telling my Mummy, "Yea...I'm pretty pleased...haha, not bad after all...but my English GCE'O'...A2 wor...A2 wor..."

The journey home felt longer than usual. I called my Dad on his cell to tell him about my result and I attempted not to grumble to him regarding that miserable A2 on my slip.

Thankfully, I succeeded in doing so. But upon returning home, I simply could not get that out of my mind. I contemplated about it when I went to the loo. I contemplated about it too when I was helping my Mummy in the kitchen, which almost resulted in scalded fingers (I was about to fried some fish and the oil was boiling hot, ok?). Even before dozing off, I continued thinking about it.

Conclusion?

Either I screwed up my Section 2 essay (I actually chose to write a narrative about my childhood memory , instead of my usual cup of tea, to write argumentatively on some fun topic) or someone had keyed in the score wrongly. Maybe even a couple of silly grammar errors too (I was well-known for my ability to meddle up my grammars when I was nervous...but, most of the time, I only had an average of 4 to 5 grammar errors per essay).

Albeit profoundly intended to waste 50 bucks to recheck my result for English GCE 'O', I did not end up doing so because I did not people going around calling me kiasu. I kept repeating to myself that it's equally hard to score an A2 for GCE 'O' and that there's probably another bunch of kids who were deeply saddened because they did not manage to score even an A for it (read: Be grateful and thankful-lah).

A few days ago, I was chatting with a friend about our SPM results. She did not believe me too when I told her I got an A2 for my GCE 'O'.

Friend: You kiddin' me izit?
Me : No lah. I really got that-lah...
Friend: Wei, how come like that one...my classmate ar also got A1 for her GCE 'O' but she can't
even write properly leh and her English worse than mine some more ar...
Me : O_o

And that's when fury got the better of me. I started asking myself questions. If my friend really meant what she said, then why did I ever got that grade? How come she (my friend's friend) got A1 but not me? What have I done to deserve that A2? Why did it happen? Why didn't I just waste that 50 bucks to check back my scores?

I may sound arrogant (and sour) if I say this out but...how come someone who can write better in English did not receive a much deserving A1 than someone who can not write properly in English? Isn't it obvious that there is something wrong here? (read: HELLLLLLLOOOOOOOO)

I am confused. Although the A2 did not affect much of my scholarship chances (thank god I managed to secure that), but I was actually troubled by it. For the past couple of months after knowing the results, I could not help it but to question my proficiency in English, especially in writing. I started doubting myself and experiencing this tinge of regret in me (for not choosing to write an argumentative essay, for not paying the National Accreditation Board 50 bucks to check my results and for not going to paid English tutorials during my secondary school life).

I can only hope that I could gain back my confidence in English and also to prove that, hey, my English is superb too!!!

English English

Aigoo...I feel like jumping out of the window-lah now...
I never knew writing could be such physically and mentally draining.
It's as if my brains sap are being sucked out dry by one of those brain-sapping monsters while some cannibals are skinning me alive with cleavers or huge scissors.

Sigh...

I thought English was fun...*sob sob*

The Most Anticipated Drama of the Year

As Hong Kong's people are catching "Jia Hao Yue Yuan" (known in Cantonese as Ga Hou Yuet Yoon), the latest TVB series in town, Malaysians are given the treat of watching Malaysianised version of it.

So many conspiracies are involved, so much dramas...*plot cerita yang amat mendebarkan*

Malaysians should really be catching up with the show everyday as each episodes promises more fury, more actions and definitely more dramas... By the way, according to a reliable source, DSAI, the drama will be peaking soon.

To be honest with you, if you're a true blue Malaysian, you should really watch it-lah.
Don't play play ar.

So folks, have you bought enough pop corns and other TV snacks?
I should seriously contemplate before posting any foolish or ninny post here.

I seriously do not want to end up like RPK or Jeff Ooi.

But...

This is MY BLOG!!!

MINE!!!

Couldn't I be having the ultimate command of it? Couldn't I write what I wanted? Couldn't I just lament on my own blog?

What-lah!??

No speech freedom at all...
Haih...

Hypocrisy

Tears of joy were shed.
I was touched.
I mellowed.
Good deeds were performed.
The needy received the much sought after aids.
Three contestants - Brendan, Cameron and Brandi.
Everyone was happy with the outcomes.
The contestants met John Travolta.
Oh, and another contestant actually met Jamie Oliver.
Jamie is like, the next big thing after Gordon Ramsey in the UK.

Did the contestants really go all out to help the people which they had helped?
Or rather, did they did what they did for the sake of winning the competition?
Which of course, also meant free publicity for themselves.
Instant fame, instant popularity, maybe even instant cash...
After all, humans are "altruistic".

What they did...
I think it reveals pretty much about the human nature...
Don't worry, I am not going to discount the unsung heroes
BUT...
they seemed rather hypocrites...

It's Oprah's Big Give that I'm talking about by the way...

AHHH...another of my two cents...

Lazy

Well, I was just wondering...is there any substitute for the word LAZY?

I AM GETTING LAZIER AND LAZIER AS THE DAY GOES BY

and I don't know why is it so.

Freaking SAT 1 is just round that corner and I keep on feeling that I have not done enough practices...which is quite true...ottoke???

I am freaking out (yes I am) although most people did not realize that...*haha...I know I'm a hell of an actress*. The following few months are like, the most crucial period of my life. That said, either I am going to stay for another year in Taylor's or a full 4 years in the States *whee*

Hence, I should really work my butts off...*sob sob*

I don't know-lah.......I really don't want to start emo-ing again after a few weeks of bliss which I have gone through...

A trip back to Ipoh last weekend was superb *THUMBS UP*. I wanted to write about it but.................

Like I said, aku telah diserang penyakit malas.
Meaning, the lazy bug had got me and there's not even any pesticides available in the market can get rid of it...

FOR GOOD.

The End

I never know you could be such an ignorant, selfish brat who knows nothing. Your universe only center around yourself and perhaps just yourself. Period. I regretted meeting someone like you.

YOU.

Y.O.U.

Just a piece of my mind, for your information. I don't give it a damn about your preferences over this post of mine.

I just want you to disappear.

I don't wanna see you anymore.

THE END.

What would happen if

What would happen if you were taking a bath and then all of a sudden, there's not even a single drop of water flowing from the shower???

*GASP*

Haha...that just happened to moi. My lovely mane was covered with white, soft foams smelling of Jojoba oil. My tanned skin, which covered most of my legs and arms, was feeling a little slippery, thanks to the cute little colorless bubbles, products of a chemical reaction (wait, I think it's physical lah) between this ginseng flavor shower cream and yea, good ol' plain tap water.

I could not bear to predict my consequences if the water supply did not resume as soon as possible.

*GULP*

No worries, peeps. The shower was back in for more actions aboout a minute or two later.

Wakaka...

PHIL 101

Pendidikan Moral.

Moral Studies.

Aah…whatever. The MOE sure knows how to make life terrible for students especially secondary students. Although there’s practically no more Moral Studies class for secondary school students now, the MOE managed to come up with Pendidikan Sivik or Civic Studies.

Back in my time (about two years ago), I was never an A1 scorer for my Moral Studies. I always questioned my friends, “Am I really that immoral that I am unable to score A1 for my Moral?” Deep inside me however, I knew that I am someone which uphold moral values more than anything else. But the incapability to score A1 for my Moral was a bitter pill.

Now, let me recall why I just could not score A1 for my Moral. For a student to score A1 in Moral Studies, all he or she need is a good brain capacity. What’s that for? Well, a good brain memory and capacity will be able to help the student to memorize the 36 definitions of different virtues which was spilt into approximately 5 or 6 bidangs (fields). And then, once you’ve mastered the definitions, you would have no problem deriving sentences from the definitions (at least that’s what I did). For that miserable A1, I had been struggling for close to one year before finally able to break that 80% barrier. That journey was certainly rocky.

Right now, in the year of 2008, I am also taking Moral Studies, which is a mandatory course. Before class begins, I thought that it was something similar to the one I had back in MGS. Moreover, my friends who have taken the course had told me that this Moral Studies is horrible and boring as well. Despite hearing negative comments from them, I stick to my decision of taking Moral Studies course for my first semester. After all, as it is a compulsory course, why not “suffer” now? Besides that, I also thought that maybe it may come in handy when I write my essays.

Guess what?

I think I made the right choice! It was nothing like the conventional Moral Studies I had had! So far, my teacher has been discussing with us about Aristotle and his telos, Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Nietzsche and Ibn Khaldun's Muqadimmah. All about ethics.

By the way, did I not mention that my teacher is so cool and wow, I did a lot of thinking and reflections. The thinking part came as a surprise to me because previously I have never come across such teaching materials and the Moral Studies class certainly enlightens me on various aspects. The way how I usually see things kinda morphed into a whole new, never ending horizon which promises a gamut of possibilities.

The class is magnificent and goodness, I can’t believe what my inner voice has been telling me for the past few weeks…

“I think I’ll include Philosophy as one of my course in the future!”

=)

Hmmm...

Hmmm...my friends are complaining that I am an easy prey to agitation...
Especially FKY and Shen...they said I wasn't like that previously.
I used to be calm and cool and you know, the-I-don't-care-why-bother-so-what attitude.

Ah well...I better learn how to regain control of my old self!!!

Just go with the flow...

Yeah baby...

=P

M for Malacca@Melaka and Merdeka

Now, I know it's the Merdeka holidays but that certainly did not deter my aunt's steadfast determination to visit Malacca on a public holiday.

Ta-da! This was taken in the car as we passed by the Stadthuys....erm...I think I dunno how to spell the name of the famous red building leh.

Anyway, my family actually planned to travel all the way down south to Malacca to allow ourselves to experience some mouth-watering Baba-Nyonya cuisines. Since I simply love indulging in good food and fine dining (two days ago, I was with FKY and Shen-Ly teasing my
taste buds at Tony Roma's and Manhattan Fish Market), I was in favor of this exquisite notion.

And to say that this brilliant plan was actually a debacle in disguise, was so true.

For God's sake, it's a public holiday and we should have known that Malacca would be flooded by tourists, both locals and foreigners alike! Still, we were ninny enough to go there for food.

We were practically stuck in the jam upon reaching the tolls at Ayer Keroh. By then, we were still clueless about what would dawn upon us in the city.

So, did I manage to indulge myself in delicious food at the end of the day?

Er, nope.

The traffic was so heavy that we were stuck for two hours! Damn it! Two hours in the car was the last thing I had anticipated. When we finally reached somewhere near Dataran Merdeka, we were so hungry that the drivers (my dad and my uncle) were looking for parking frantically. The cars were parked in front of some shops and right in front of us was this cafe which sells Taiwanese-styled ramen.

Our tummies were churning so...we ravaged the cafe.

Ok lah, not that exaggerating. We did not ravage the cafe but I felt so stupid.

Instead of trying local delicacies, I ended up eating Sichuan-styled ramen...*sigh+shake head*

Haih...thinking back, no more mood to blog already lah...
